On a fine sunday morning 6 aircraft set off to The Canowindra International Airport. Canowindra is a small town 50 nautical miles from Bathurst. It has a privately owned strip operated by Jamie Andrews of Hamiltons Bluff Vineyard. He is very friendly and helpful and is always willing for you to use the strip as long as you call him before hand 02 63442079 or 0427 708878. The strip lies adjacent to the Vineyard so it is and easy walk to taste some local wines (so long as your not the pilot!).
It is an unsealed grass strip and is 1600m long. It is very long but very narrow. The runway directions are 36 and 18. 36 has a displaced threshold and care should be taken when taking off from runway 36 as there is a hill on upwind, the runway slopes up to the north. It is a great little ALA to fly into and more information can be found in the NSW Country Airstrps Guide.
