We got away early and decided to fly home via Narandera and Cowra. With thunderstorms and weather looking doubtful this is a good way back because there is low terrain and a number of aerodromes to divert to e.g. Temora, West Wylong, Cowra, Young and Orange, if needed. All of which have NDB's.
Narrandera has a NDB (329) and VOR (116.3) and is easy to navigate to with the Newell Highway and a railway leading into it. The terminal is open and is a good toilet stop with air conditioning and an escape from the flies.
You have to call ahead and arrange fuel (02) 6959 5560 or 0428 690 518 or there may be someone at the aeroclub that can help you. There is a $15 call out fee and they take credit card.
